Martin Foreman has worked in HIV in the developing world since 1986.
An independent consultant currently based in London,
Martin offers technical support in research, analysis and
project design, implementation and assessment.
Martin's thematic focuses include access to treatment and other
services, youth involvement, sexuality and gender,
particularly from the male perspective. Other areas where he has worked include stigma and discrimination, the uniformed forces and conflict, and media and communication.
Over the years Martin has written, edited or worked on a number of
key documents widely used by donors and
implementing agencies, including the ground-breaking AIDS and the Third World (1986), AIDS and Men (1999), Combat AIDS (2002).
Martin's geographical focus has included
Latin America in the 1990s, Africa (1990s - 2000s) and South-East Asia (2000s).
He speaks seven languages; apart from English, he is most fluent in French, Portuguese and Spanish.
Martin's skills include project development and evaluation, writing for the general
public and specialised audiences, negotiation, and leadership in workshops,
conferences and seminars.
Martin has worked with a wide range of UN agencies and national and international non-governmental organisations.
From 2000 to 2002 he was chair of the UK NGO AIDS Consortium.
From 2002 to 2006 he was chair of the Technical Advisory Group for YouthNet,
a global reproductive health programme for young people.
